Meandering in Vrindavan
Sage
Narad learnt that lord Srikrishna had taken birth on earth at Mathura and lived as a toddler at village
Gokul in Vrindavan. Longing to have the glimpse of his lord, he descended down
with his veena strumming name of lord Hari all around and began to search the
sanctifying soil where rejoiced Lord Srikrishna as a son of village head
Nandrai who had been blessed with a issue at the fag end of life. As he was
drawn to the spot where his lord sported in a
Golden
cradle glittering radiance of precious gems and pearls he could not contain his
joy. His eyes as if forgot to wink and he kept on gloating at the cherubic face
of his unique master spreading tranquility, light and bliss. The curly locks
adorning his shining forehead appeared to him as if dark nimbus had gathered
there to quench the thirst of the parched eyes that had been longing for eons
to satiate themselves with the sap of his vision in this new form, new
appearance. He prayed to him in various ways and then got into a conversation
with the purported father of baby Kanha. The ebullience of his heart turned
into officious praise to the son of Nandrai,-“ Nandji! Rare are the devotees of
Lord Srikrishna. Your this son is indeed matchless in all respect and his
virtues are beyond description. No human can describe his divine qualities. No one
can know him fully. Even lord Brahma and lord Shiv ever long for his vision and
association. Your son will ever spread auspiciousness, joy and delight
everywhere. His influence will be ever unfailing. Those who will feel love to
him shall be spontaneously liberated from the mundane bonds of this mortal
world. No mundane botheration will ever come even near to him. Nandji! I tell
you in confidence, that you should remain mentally ever devoted to him
believing him to be accomplished with divine glory.” His prophecy about the son made the father and
mother draw immense joy and faith in almighty and they honoured the sage with
various offerings. Sage Narad also blessed them with great joy and
satisfaction. Thus counseling the fortunate father sage Narad moved out of his
home.
His mind thought still focused on the smiling
yet not verbally communicable son hovered around the idea of seeing his consort
as well.” If lord Krishna has appeared, then
his consort must also have been around in this place only.” He thought.” I must
find her out and have her vision also.”
Deciding so, he began to roam from door to door begging divine mother to
bless him with her rarest of rare vision. To his immense satisfaction, all the
householders ushered him in their households very affectionately and offered
him alms to the best of their capacity. How fortunate are these householders
who enjoy the status of being the neighbour of supreme power of the world he
said to himself. Filled with an intense
desire to see the soul mate of lord Krishna ,
he finally reached the door of Vrishbhanu. The host saluted the sage and
welcomed him in. He washed his feet and offered best of fruits, clothes etc. to
the roving sage. Asis the practice, the householder called for his son and aske
him to seek blessings from the holy guest. Sage Narad blessed the son who
looked glowing with piousness and innate wisdom.” Vrishbhanuji! Your son is
most fortunate and shall rejoice in the company of lord Krishna
and Balaram.” Prophesied the sage. The host thanked him and said,-“Sage1 I have
a daughter also. Please bless her and tell about her future as well..” Saying
so he took the sage inside where his wife lived with her maids and daughter.
The sage longed to see the daughter of this host whose mere remembrance had
intoxicated the sage with divine delirium. He could feel the subtle yet intense
energy prevalent in the home that made his feel that the soul mate of lord Krishna must be surely there. Thus feeling deeply drawn
and blessed the sage stepped in the chamber where he spotted a little girl
rolling in the soil of the holy land. Narad could see the golden aura of the
girl from the distance and felt helplessly engrossed in her. He had been to
various divine spheres and witnessed the beauty of celestial nymphs and divine
dgoddesses. But the beauty that was in front of him defeated the charm of all females. She appeared as
resplendent as a full moon spreading its radiance in a dark sky defeating and
decimating the light of countless stars. Narad prayed to her spontaneously. He
then lifted her up and held her in his arms. Her touch mesmerized the sage as
he forgot all and everything around him. The feeling that had devoured him on
looking into the eyes of baby Kanha overpowered him once again with multiplied
intensity and depth that left him speechless and perfectly nonplussed.
As a mountain springs out a stream of water so
did gratitude and praise flowed out of his heart. Though his speech failed him,
a thought sprouted in his mind,-“I freely roam around in the cosmos. Having seen
several bizarre and unseen spheres of the creation, have I never witnessed such
astonishing and inescapable yet purifying charm! Her mere glance has left me
engrossed and steeped in divine ecstasy! Even mother Parvati seems to be her
mere stretch. Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati also seem to be of no
comparison even the shadow of this girl. I find myself reduced to cipher in
knowing her virtues and attributes. However, I have not an iota of doubt that she
must surely be only the consort of my miraculous and matchless lord Srikrishna.
She will enrapture my lord with her peerless beauty and grace. Although her
eyes are lined with collyrium yet they radiate such bright light that seems to
me so scintillating so energizing that her mere glance can enthuse and uplift
the gazer to ultimate bliss that emancipates the heart of all profane
attractions. Both of them seem to be of equal charm, equal power and equal
magnetism. They evoke similar feeling, similar peace and similar bliss in my
heart. This feeling has ever been strange to my heart that has ever been
yearning for new joy, new delight that bestows liberation not quagmire of
mundane bonding! Now I shall not miss
the rarest of rare opportunity of worshipping her in solitude to invoke her
true divine status. Thinking so he asked Vrishbhanu to go away and leave him
alone to study the features and future of the baby girl. The trusting host
obeyed the sage without reservation and this was what the sage looked for.
Narad then folded her both hands in veneration.
His eyes turned moist and throat just choked. Yet he knew the goddess whom he
longed to please could hear the whispers of his heart. His devotion flowed into
inaudible prayer,-“Goddess! You are indeed abode of supreme power of universe!
Your glowing spiritual efflorescence is matchless! Your each and every part is
endowed with incomparable beauty. Your attraction is strangely unfailing and
most emancipating. You appear to me the bestower of divine ecstasy. Your heart
seems to be gushing with divine grace and divine delight. I have not the lest doubt
that only on the strength of some great auspicious actions done in the pat have
I found this opportunity of seeing and worshipping you, Mother of Universe!
Your insouciance reflects the ocean of bliss gushing forth waves of mystic joy
in my esurient heart of a seeker. I hear the celestial rhythm resounding in
your association. Mother! Creation, sustenance and destruction of galaxies is
your mere sport. You are the best of all, sweetest of all, and undoubtedly most
glorious of all. Even Lord Brahma and lord Shiv face failure in having your
vision. The greatest of yogis also fail to have your association. Mother of
all! The three streams of energy known as desire, intelligence and activity are
your mere trivial and capricious gestures. Even as a baby you possess such
strength of attraction which has never been felt by this poor son anywhere in
the entire cosmos! Please be pleased
with this son of yours and show me the best of your form that enmeshes even the
supreme yogi of this creation and turns him into lord of conjugal bliss. I am
your innocent son and a mere devout servitor. Mother1 please shower mercy over
me and bless me for a moment with that vision which is the most coveted, the
most rare to all the devotes of lord Srikrishna and the most powerful in
bestowing liberation from the cycles of death and rebirth!” while praying so
his mind began to hover around the inescapable charm of lord Srikrishna.
Spontaneously prayer flowed from his heart,-“O stealer of hearts of your
devotees Srikrishna! Victory be yours, salutations to you! O wearer of crown of
peacock feathers! O delight of Vrindavan! Victory be yours! Salutations to you!
When shall this beggar be offered the alms of the vision of both of you reeling
in the bliss of each others loving sport? When shall this son receive the
blessing of both of you?”
As the prayer streamed from his longing heart his
searing eyes got a respite seeing the baby girl turning into an adolescent adorned
with best of raiment, ornaments, flowers and scent, ogling at her soul
mate amorously. Surrounded by matching
graceful and divine milkmaids, she appeared as shining and radiant as a full
moon appears in the dark night. Lord Srikrishna appeared completely imbued in
her. The sage was agape and speechless.
The consort of lord Srikrishna threw a gracious glance at Narad, leaving him stupefied and inert out of
rapture and gratitude. Seeing the plight of sage the milkmaids smile at him.
They worshipped the queen of cosmos, washed her feet and sprinkled washing of
her feet over the stilled sage. The feeling of having received her blessings
brought sage to his senses. The smiling milkmaids then said,-“O fortunate sage!
How blessed and privileged are you! You
have worshipped lord Srikrishna in association of his soul mate. Pleased with
your devotion and praise, the queen of Goloka has blessed you with her such
vision that remains a mirage for all others such as even Lord Brahma and Lord
Shiv. Get up and take rounds around them for such opportunity shall not be
there again..” The prostrating Narad found himself unable to rise up and
remained helplessly rooted to earth.
Soon the divine vision vanished and Narad found the daughter of Vrishbhanu rolling in soil as before, with a mysterious smile on her rosy, delicate lips. Having been rendered speechless by the innocent baby girl who had uttered not a single word to him, Narad somehow garnered consciousness of the world outside and called at Vrishbhanu who took his wife Kalavati along and entered in. As the curious hosts came in, the sage took up the role of a roving fortune teller. He smiled to the parents of the girl and said,-“O Leader of milkmen! Your daughter is divine and not knowable to anyone in three spheres. Wherever shall she step down, that land shall be sanctified by her piety. She will turn the darkest spheres into an abode of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Bring her up with the faith and belief that she is the incarnation of supreme power and take care of her in the best ways…” thus counseling them so, sage Narad blessed the parents and moved out of the home where he had sneaked into the realm of supreme sphere of the creation. His delight was unfathomable and he flew up knowing not where to proceed and what to aim at further..
